The Taliban Essay

Afghanistan has had a rough past few decades due to the Taliban, who also call themselves a “political movement group. ” The Taliban has made Afghanistan a very cruel place to live because of all the violence and ways the Taliban has changed the Afghanistan culture. The Taliban made the country a very scary place to live, as they also have access to many weapons they use to keep themselves a strong force. The Taliban has made a statement overall to the world, whether it is them making political movements, or even them trading opium drugs. Overall, the Taliban had made Afghanistan suffer greatly.

The Taliban has a very big weapons arsenal and in order for them to have that they would have to get funds to support this. The best was the Taliban gets their money is through opium drugs trades. Afghanistan is the largest illicit producer in the world for opium. Warlords traffic the drug through multiple routes varying on the country. The southern region of Helmand is the highest in drug transaction. A major route starts in the providence of Helmand, which is near the Pakistan border, then gets carried through Helmand and ends up reaching its destination in Iran.

The reasoning on why it’s such a big controversy is because it affects the world as a whole. Surly the Taliban don’t care about the worldwide epidemic of what the are causing because New York Times writer, Eric Schmitt mentions that the total yearly income varies from $70-$400 Million. This is a great reason on why the Taliban can keep up with such a modern weapon system. Even though the opium trade seems like a bad thing to do, it also effects the world in a much greater way. Heroin is made from opium, which is the reason why the trade is so big.

Roughly 1/3 of the world’s heroin is started from the little poppy seed grown in Afghanistan. It is much more than just a drug trade, in the bigger picture it is a world epidemic. About 30,000 people die a year in Russia due to heroin addictions. As told in a BBC News article, there are around two and a half million heroin addicts in the country of Russia alone. The world has a very big problem when it comes to the Taliban because of the drug trade and its effect on the whole world. There is a difference between Osama Bin Laden’s group Al Qaeda and The Taliban.

One of the big differences between the two is that the Taliban is an organized group who reined Afghanistan from 1996-2001, and Al Qaeda is a small group in Pakistan that is more of a terrorist organization. The Taliban still has many political conflicts with countries like the United States. After the 9-11 attacks in New York, the United States overthrew the Taliban reign of Afghanistan. Even without being in the same affliction, the Taliban had more Intel on where Osama Bin Laden was, and they held that information. The Taliban have quality weaponry they use to fight in combats to hold or gain power on their opponents.

The Taliban are always on a constant job with the war on drugs, so transporting opium is a major key to success. The Taliban ruled the country politically and economically and forced Afghanistan to suffer greatly. Afghanistan created many rules, which caused the Taliban to be in charge. Their rules were strict, and in most cases, the punishments were very harsh. Citizens had no say in the Taliban’s rules. People who did not abide were tortured or even killed. The Taliban made it so that citizens had no rights, women and children had it the worst.

They were banned from such things as music, television, and other items that created joy. Many of the rules were very strict. If a man’s beard wasn’t the right length, then he could beat or tortured. The Taliban were politically in charge of Afghanistan. This meant that they were also in charge economically. The economy is very low, which caused much of the Afghanistan people to be living in poverty. One big problem the Taliban has is with women’s rights. They are very strict with what women can do and how they can live their lives. They were banished from the work force, and aren’t even allowed to go to school.

If a woman was already enrolled in a university, then they were immediately expelled. Women weren’t allowed to leave their homes unless they were with a close male relative. If a woman disobeyed these rules, then they would be publicly flogged, brutally beaten, and even killed. If a woman was to leave her house without a close relative, then she could be subjected to being stoned to death. These are all examples of what happened during the Taliban Regime. Before these times, women’s rights were equal to those of men’s. Half of the students at Kabul University were women before the regime.

The Taliban was very strict on their rules, and what they wanted people to do. The people of Afghanistan had no choice but to follow the Taliban’s orders. The Taliban is a very strict and harsh group who controlled the country of Afghanistan in the early 20th century, and is still around today. The group has had an impact world wide, and still does today. They are on the world news almost nightly. The Taliban control the opium drug trade, which is a worldwide epidemic with is being made into heroin. The Talban has and still does cause the country of Afghanistan to suffer greatly.
